Are you writing a personal story? Do you find yourself with questions or in need of motivation or clarity? In this class you learn how to turn your life experiences into stories. You will be given writing prompts in class and I will guide you through sensorial meditation/exercises which activate your creative world. We will look at and discuss the work of great memoirists such as Tobias Wolff, Mary Carr, Nadia Owuzo, among others. You will be given writing homework which I read, edit, and make suggestions on how to improve and deepen what is already there. You will write from your heart, from your life. This class creates a supportive, encouraging, and inspiring space in which the spark of each writer's potential will be expanded upon. Expect reading and writing homework. By the last week of class you may have a very first draft of a personal essay/memoir piece.
