NEW! The gracefulness and elegance of early American interior and furniture styles and the historical architecture in which they resided are a result of the influence of European styles from which they originated.  Early American furniture styles from the Jacobean style of the early colonists through the graceful forms of Pre- and Post-Revolutionary America to the more elaborate forms of the Classical Revival period are explored, as well as the social and political influences upon the architecture and design of these eras.  The course will also include discussion of the artistic backdrop of the era, including folk art, portraiture, and landscape painting.
