Welcome to the Teaching Information page of Community Education at Santa Monica College. 

Applicants interested in teaching for Community Education should download the PDF documents below.  Read them carefully before completing the proposal form. All proposals need to be typed using the fillable PDF forms provided.

Once complete, PDF versions of any proposals should be emailed to commed@smc.edu – unfortunately, our staff are unable to accept proposals that are dropped off to our office. To ensure a speedy response, any other inquiries should be made to commed@smc.edu.

*Please note that we have two separate proposals listed above.  For proposed class tuition over $499, you'll need to use the expanded version, EXTENDED PROPOSAL FORM (PDF).

Completed course proposal (PDF) packet must be sent electronically to Program Coordinator.

Proposal Deadlines

Semester dates vary from year to year; a general estimate of semester duration is supplied here for reference.  Due to the extensive turnover time involved in class schedule production, the deadlines will be strictly enforced with no exceptions. 

 

Below are the proposal deadlines for each semester:

Winter: 

September 1. Semester begins first week of January and ends early February

Spring:

October 1. Semester begins early February, and ends the first week of June

Summer:

February 1. Semester begins mid June, and ends early August

Fall:

March 1. Semester begins after Labor Day, and ends early December

Parking information as well as directions are posted on our Campus Parking page (you can clickon the link in this item or for future reference, it appears at the top of the vertical navigation bar on the left side of our website at commed.smc.edu.
The Campus Parking page contains parking information and links to maps for all campuses. As for Emeritus College:

1227 SECOND STREET (Parking is available in the City parking structure #2, located at the corner of Second Street and Wilshire Blvd. Parking is free for the first 90 MINUTES, and $1 for each additional 30 minutes, up to a maximum of $14. Evening rates after 6pm may vary. Head-in parking ONLY is strictly enforced.

Also, you will need to know what room number. If the door is not opened, you need to call Campus Police at 310-434-4300 and have them open it. It is highly suggested that you arrive to class early in case the room is not opened.

Once you logged in, you need to click on Future Roster if the start date of the class is in the future. During the class duration, this roster is accessible through Current Roster, if that makes sense.
